Lyle and Julia

Lyle and Julia

This  watercolor illustration is of Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett for that short stint when they were married. I thought it was one of the weirdest pairings I’ve seen at the time. Most of what I do today is digital because the tools are so much more forgiving than traditional media.

Have a Happy Day

Have a Happy Day

“Have a nice day” T-shirts were everywhere when I was a kid. I heard Graphic Designer Harvey ball got paid $45 to create it for State Mutual Life Insurance. Neither he or the insurance company thought to trademark it. Millions were made off of it. Kind of like Milton Glaser’s I ❤️ NY design.

The finished mural was 7 feet wide, and a huge Photoshop file. It was a challenge to depict all the aspects of the community and company in the mural I think there were about fifteen iterations from start to finish. I’ve never worked with the AD Alan before and he was a joy to work with. Please click image to see the slideshow.

CIFF Poster

CIFF Poster

The folks at CIFF, the Calgary International Film Festival approached me to do a three Pantone colored movie poster for prints. I chose the movie “Slap Shot” because it was an iconic representation of Canadian hockey life, I could just relate to it. The Hanson Brothers were the cliche of the hockey goon, they were goofy with thick bottle-bottom glasses. Even though they were goons– they were also child-like in their innocence. The poster was screen printed so the art prep took the longest part of the project, each color had to be hand separated. Artwork was done using Illustrator and Photoshop.

These are infographics from a variety of projects. All are built in Adobe Illustrator. I really enjoy the challenge of explaining concepts and ideas visually.
