omnicron

Romain Tardy and  Thomas Vaquié created this cool art installation. It involves projection, a grand room and your imagination. I felt like I was at the docking station of some huge star ship. Find out the behind the scenes info at their site.

problems

I recently sent this out as an email campaign, but thought it would be nice to add it to the blog. I was thinking about mythical creatures having ups and downs, like the rest of us.

design inspiration

Inspiration comes from the most unusual places. Sometimes when you’re struggling for a design solution it’s good to go for a walk, put on some inspirational music, or browse magazines. The folks over at Design Related have a cool inspirational category that you can browse to get inspired. This cover is on one of their inspiration pages, a book cover from 1965–still looks fresh.

op

One of my favourite movements in art happened in the late Fifties and Sixties was op art. It was mostly dedicated to playing with optical illusions created by shape and colour. This movement came out of the works of artists like Victor Vasarely and Julian Stanczak. The experiments with discordance of figure and ground, and it’s effects on the eye were revolutionary at the time, giving the viewer a pseudorealistic experience based on design.

new work

Retro NHL Goalie, just for fun.
