cool card

A way cool British coffee house came up with this brilliant loyalty card, I’d really want to get mine stamped to finally have a driver.

dream client

The folks over at Imgur have a collection of photos of the airplane designs for Kulula airlines. I can’t imagine very many designers being able to get such a cool design past the board.  Most of the time the best ideas are dead long before the painters are brought in. The designs were done by the airlines in-house design team. Kudos

creepy

Thomas Kuebler’s sculptures are amazingly real, If you’re looking for a Life-sized Frankenstein, he’s your man. Explore his gallery for the coolest creepy sculptures this side of CG. And if you’re in Kansas City in May, you can see his sculptures in real life at the Bartle Convention Centre’s “Spectrum Fantastic Art Live!”

threat

The American Design Club  recently had a show open up in Williamsburg. The theme of the show is threat and the contributors designed pieces that you would use in reaction to hearing someone break into your house. Below is Kendall Mills’ piece, that gives you a nice happy place inside a bag you would put on your head.

Banksky on advertising

I came across this quote that Banksky was to have made about advertising:

Bansky on Advertising

“People are taking the piss out of you everyday, They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the tun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are “The Advertisers” and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.

Fuck that. Any advert in n public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours . It’s yours to take, rearrange, and re-use You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like- asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.

You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing. You especially don’t owe them any courtesy, They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.”

I thought that Banksky was  on the mark when it comes to living with advertising. The interesting thing is that some have said that part of his quote was a plagiarism
